The Greeks called Venus as Aphrodite connecting it with sexual impulses of mankind. The Babylonians called it Nana, Assyrians named it Ishtar, Hebrews knew it by the name of Astoreth and the Phoneticians, by Astarte. The West gave it two names–Phosphorus and Hesperus– linking the same with its luminosity and her appearing in the morning or in the evening as it happens in different parts of the year. Hindus attached tremendous importance to Venus and imagined it to be the teacher of the demons (Asuras). In the allegory of Mritasanjeevani or ‘giving life to the dead’ acquisition we have the story of the death & resurrection of Kacha (divine spirit) by the powers of Venus and the latter also resurrected by Kacha. He was a son of Jupiter and was commissioned by the gods to learn the secret of immortal life from Venus who had found out the secret from Lord Shiva himself. When Kacha went to learn it from Venus, Devayani, the daughter of Venus, fell in love with· him. Kacha learnt the secret but was later on found out to be a spy for gods and was therefore killed by Venus. Devayani implored Venus to resurrect Kacha. It so happened that Venus was later on killed and was resurrected by Kacha with the assistance of the secret learnt by him from Venus. This allegoric story shows that the divine spirit must get involved in matter in order to learn the secret of immortality and eternal resurrection but the latter, matter itself, can be raised to the divine status with the help of spiritual power learnt in the process. This experience comes through the lessons imparted by Venus. My humble salutations to the pure one Venus. ✡️
